About Us:

Leguan is a food truck that specializes in Guyanese inspired chicken sandwiches and specialty chicken poutines. We are planning to expand into the world of gelato and are passionate about creating innovative flavors and delivering an exceptional customer experience through our food truck operations.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Master Gelato Maker & Food Truck Operator to join our team. This full-time, permanent position combines culinary expertise with entrepreneurial spirit, overseeing gelato production and managing our mobile food truck operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gelato Production: Develop and execute a variety of gelato recipes, ensuring consistency and quality. Oversee daily production from ingredient selection to final product.

  • Quality Control: Conduct taste tests, maintain hygiene standards, and resolve any production issues.

  • Inventory Management: Manage raw materials inventory, monitor usage, minimize waste, and maintain detailed records.

  • Recipe Development: Innovate new gelato flavors and collaborate with marketing for seasonal and special editions.

  • Training and Supervision: Train and supervise junior staff, providing ongoing coaching and conducting performance evaluations.

  • Customer Interaction: Engage with customers, gather feedback, and participate in promotional events.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all gelato-making equipment is properly maintained and serviced.

  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, and implement safety protocols.

  • Cost Management: Monitor and control production costs, develop and adhere to budgets.

  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on production, inventory, and quality control.

Food Truck Operation Responsibilities:

  • Truck Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of the gelato food truck, ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Sales and Customer Service: Operate the food truck, handle customer transactions, and provide excellent service.

  • Route Planning and Scheduling: Plan and manage the food truck schedule, selecting optimal locations and times for maximum sales.

  • Marketing and Promotion: Promote the food truck through social media and community engagement.

  • Compliance and Licensing: Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained and maintained.

  • Inventory Management for the Truck: Manage food truck inventory, coordinating with the main production facility.

  • Staff Management: Hire, train, and supervise food truck staff.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a gelato maker or in a similar culinary role.

  • Strong understanding of gelato production techniques and quality control.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage a team and work independently.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a food truck.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Language of Work: English.

  • Location of Work: Northumberland Region, Kawartha Lakes Region.

  • Culinary Skills: Proficiency in gelato-making techniques, flavor balancing, and ingredient selection.

  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure product quality and consistency.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues effectively.

  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills to manage production schedules and food truck operations.

  • Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with customers and handle inquiries and feedback.

  • Team Leadership: Experience in training, supervising, and motivating a team.

  • Marketing Acumen: Basic knowledge of marketing principles to promote the food truck and gelato products.

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of cost management, budgeting, and inventory control.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules, locations, and customer demands.

  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in food production and handling.
