Position:
As an Apprentice Carpenter, you’ll be working closely with a lead carpenter, supporting the developments in commercial, residential and other construction projects. The work will include: drywall installation and repairs, installing all types of floor coverings, ceilings, paneling, trim and framing. You must be able to use a wide variety of hand and power tools and maintain them in good, safe working order.
Key Responsibilities:
· Undertake proper training on the safe use of hand tools and power equipment.
· Learn the ropes from foundation to framing, and everything in between.
· Assist other trades on-site as needed. Assist lead carpenters on site.
· Build experience in reading and interpreting basic blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
· Become competent at preparing layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
· Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
· Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
· Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware.
Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments.
Requirements:
· The job requirements for Carpenter are as follows:
· Minimum 0.5 years of experience as a Junior Carpenter, or 1 year of skilled labour in residential or non-residential construction.
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 90lbs).
· Interest in working towards developing carpentry skills
· Strong customer service and front-facing skills.
· Basic knowledge in all aspects of Carpentry.
· A good gut for heights, and working on busy, high pressure job sites.
· Aptitude in math.
· Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment.
· Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical condition.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
