THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Groundman Operator to work with our dynamic team of Frontend Men, Senior Operators, and Drillers, on a variety of construction and demolition projects including cast-in drilled hole piles, continuous flight auger piles, soldier piles and lagging, secant pile walls, tangent walls, rock drilling, and soil improvement. The successful candidate will have hands on experience in the field with a working knowledge of the industry and will have to the opportunity to learn the ropes of our heavy equipment and grow their skill set from a team of experienced and skilled construction professionals.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Work under the instruction of Senior Operators in the operation of heavy equipment including:

o   Excavators

o   Wheel loaders

o   Skid-Steers with many different attachments.

o   Backhoe Excavator.

o   Loader

o   Frontend Loader

o   Bobcats

 

•         Assist the Senior Operators in avoiding any potential collisions or accidents. Responsible for being the Senior operator’s eyes in terms of machine swing.

•         Implement pile quality checks i.e. offset installation, offset measurement, elevation, verticality and other parameters as required for project. All work to be checked and confirmed by senior member of site team.

•         Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment.

•         Interpret pile layout drawings and assist with alignment and leveling before rig deployment.

•         Ensure to be constantly aware of the machine and neighboring surroundings i.e. trees, overhead lines, stakes, marked underground utilities; ensures that the Senior Operator is made aware of any possible dangers.

•         Load, unload, and identify construction materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications, or as directed.

•         Maintain equipment through regular inspections and assist with basic mechanical service and collaborate with Senior Operators to troubleshoot maintenance problems.

•         Ensure that all equipment is safely and securely stored.

•         Perform all work in accordance with current HFDI policies and procedures and in a safe and responsible manner.

•         Willingness to learn and take instruction from senior site members and stay up to date on new technologies and processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

•         At least two (2) years of experience in a construction environment.

•         Completion of secondary school.

•         SiteReadyBC certification

•         Experience operating a range of heavy equipment machinery.

•         Fluent written and oral English.

•         Physically fit with the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs

•         Exceptional hand eye coordination.

•         Excellent communication skills.

•         Ability to collaborate with crew members and other construction industry professionals to complete projects.

•         Following, implementing, and ensuring on site- safety and quality control measures.

•         Understanding of local, provincial, and federal regulations and safety codes.

•         Ability to solve problems and make on the spot decisions.

•         Willingness to travel to different construction sites in the Lower Mainland.
