Overview:
Bovigen Genetic Services Inc. is seeking a Bovine Embryology Technician to provide technical laboratory support in its bovine in vitro embryo production program. The successful candidate will perform routine biological and reproductive laboratory tasks in accordance with established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Perform routine laboratory procedures to support bovine in vitro embryo production following established SOPs.
Handle and prepare biological materials including oocytes, semen, and embryo culture components.
Select and grade bovine oocytes using microscopy following predefined criteria.
Prepare and label media, culture dishes, and laboratory solutions as required for IVF and embryo culture.
Process bovine semen for fertilization procedures according to quality guidelines.
Conduct fertilization and monitor embryo growth as per production standards; record observations and results accurately.
Grade embryos for transfer or cryopreservation; carry out embryo freezing and warming protocols safely.
Maintain laboratory records, logs, and electronic data accurately.
Assist with routine checks and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Monitor laboratory supplies and support inventory control.
Maintain a clean, organized, sterile, and biosecure laboratory environment.
Follow all safety, biosecurity, and SOP requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
Completion of a two- to three-year college diploma or a university degree in biology, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related discipline.
3- 5 years of practical experience in a laboratory setting involving biological sample handling (e.g., microscopy, cell/embryo manipulation) is required.
Previous experience with in vitro culture techniques, oocyte handling, or cryopreservation is an asset.
Experience with bovine or large-animal reproductive laboratory practices.
Strong microscope operation and fine motor skills.
Ability to follow detailed laboratory protocols and maintain accurate documentation.
Familiarity with aseptic technique and sterile laboratory practices.
Effective communication and ability to work within a team and under supervision.
Work Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment within a reproductive services facility.
Routine use of microscopes and laboratory equipment.
Must follow biosecurity and safety procedures at all times.
Exposure to biological materials and varying temperature environments.
Compensation and Benefits
● Hourly wage: $34.62 per hour
