Automotive Service Technician (Red Seal Journeyman)

Job Details

• Wage: $37.00 to $55.00 per hour (flat rate), to be negotiated based on experience

• Minimum wage guarantee applies

• Hours: 40 to 44 hours per week

• Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

• Vacancies: 5

• Schedule: Day, Evening, Weekend

Compensation Structure

This position is paid on an automotive flat rate (piece work) system based on flagged hours per repair order.

• Minimum guaranteed pay equivalent to 8 hours per day at the applicable hourly rate

• Minimum guaranteed earnings: $296.00 per day / $1,480.00 per week (based on entry rate)

• Additional earnings may be achieved through increased productivity (flagged hours)

• Bonus and commission may apply

Job Requirements

Languages:

• English

Education:

• Registered Apprenticeship certificate in Automotive Service Technician or equivalent

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience required

Certification:

• Automotive Service Technician Red Seal Certificate (required)

Other Requirements:

• Valid driver’s licence

• Driver’s abstract required

Work Environment

• Fast-paced environment

• Physically demanding

• Work conditions include: dusty, noisy, and dirty shop environment

• Standing for extended periods

• Manual dexterity required

Job Duties

• Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions

• Diagnose and repair automotive and truck systems and components

• Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of automotive systems

• Perform scheduled maintenance services

• Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer specifications

• Review work orders and estimate parts and labour costs

• Confirm findings with supervisor to determine repair or replacement

• Discuss work and findings with supervisor

• Road test vehicles as required

• Advise customers on work performed and future repair requirements

• Complete reports to document work performed and issues identified

• Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace

• Coach and instruct apprentices

• Provide customer service
