THE ROLE:

Reporting to our Abatement and Hazardous Materials Department Head and project managers, the Asbestos Abatement Specialist is responsible for working on residential, commercial and industrial projects to ensure safe removal of asbestos-containing materials ensuring compliance with strict environmental regulations.  The candidate must have requires physical stamina, strong attention to detail, and a strong working knowledge of the relevant building codes, WorkSafeBC and environmental regulations. Candidate must possess and the requisite certifications Asbestos Abatement Certification (BC) Level 3 is a mandatory requirement.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Perform hazardous material (asbestos, mould, lead, biohazard) abatement in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations.

·         Lead small abatement teams on job sites, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.

·         Maintain site protection and equipment standards.

·         Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and crew members.

·         Complete required reporting through cloud based software and documentation.

·         Ensure self and abatement team wear and maintain appropriate PPE for each task (be clean shaven and fit tested for respirator use, etc.)

·         Conduct daily safety meetings and complete hazard assessments.

·         Oversee containment construction, negative air systems, and safe removal procedures.

·         Coordinate with project managers and consultants regarding project progress and safety requirements.

·         Provide on-site guidance and training to workers on proper abatement procedures.

·         Maintain a clear communication stream between project managers, site supervisors, and other trades on-site.

·         Implement a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company and safety standards.

·         Provide regular progress reports to senior management team.

·         Ensure safe transportation of tools, materials, and waste to and from job sites.

 

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

·         2+ years of experience as an Asbestos Abatement Specialist with experience working on residential, commercial and industrial sites.

·         Asbestos Abatement Certification (BC) Level 3 mandatory

·         First Aid Certificate

·         Fall Protection Certified

·         WHMIS Certification (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

·         Respiratory Protection Training

·         Hazardous Materials Awareness Training

·         Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and working on ladders or scaffolding as required.

·         Fluent in English with the ability to speak and read for effective communication on site.

·         Valid Class 5 driver’s license
