At New Elevation Civil Inc., we have over 20 years of experience in all aspects of civil construction. We are unique in the industry as we are owned in part by a Squamish First Nation member. We can typically produce a higher quality product in a shorter duration than our competitors. We have extensive experience on infrastructure projects such as mainline utilities, hydroelectric projects, bridges, pump station and water retaining structures. We also have extensive experience in the light commercial market with projects such as carwashes, residential mid rise, large scale multi use buildings.

THE ROLE:

 

We are looking for a motivated, passionate individual who is looking to expand their real-life knowledge and skills in the civil construction industry. The Civil Engineering Technologist position involves working with our engineering team, performing various civil construction based tasks in our office location Coquitlam B.C. and when required at all of our job sites within the lower mainland.

Responsibilities:

  • Review issued-for-construction drawings, specifications, and BC Hydro standards for duct bank and vault installations
  • Interpret design drawings to determine conduit layouts, depths, offsets, and vault tie-in requirements
  • Coordinate daily and weekly work plans with the foreman based on project schedule and site conditions
  • Identify potential conflicts (existing utilities, access constraints, environmental restrictions) and proactively plan mitigation
  • Sequence work activities (excavation, bedding, conduit placement, concrete encasement, backfill, restoration)
  • Liaise with general contractors, inspectors, and utility representatives to align schedules and site access
  • Perform detailed material take-offs from drawings (e.g., quantities of 16–125mm PVC Schedule 40 conduit, fittings, spacers, rebar, concrete volumes)
  • Order materials from suppliers, ensuring compliance with BC Hydro specifications
  • Coordinate deliveries to site, ensuring timing aligns with construction schedule and minimizes downtime
  • Maintain records of material usage for cost tracking and reconciliation
  • Schedule and coordinate hydrovac services for utility exposure and daylighting
  • Arrange trucking for material hauling, spoil removal, and aggregate delivery
  • Coordinate equipment rentals (excavators, compactors, shoring systems, etc.)
  • Ensure all subcontractors meet site safety and project requirements before commencing work
  • Provide layout guidance for trenching, conduit alignment, and vault placement
  • Confirm trench depths, widths, and bedding preparation meet specifications
  • Ensure proper installation of conduit banks (spacing, alignment, tie-ins, mandrel requirements)
  • Oversee installation of concrete-encased duct banks, including forming and reinforcement where required
  • Verify compaction and backfill procedures meet engineering and municipal standards
  • Troubleshoot field issues in real-time (conflicts, design discrepancies, unforeseen ground conditions)
  • Track and record all installed works daily (pipe runs, vault locations, elevations, offsets)
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings reflecting any deviations from design
  • Maintain photo documentation of key installation stages
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations
  • Coordinate and participate in daily tailgate/toolbox meetings
  • Verify concrete encasement meets required dimensions and quality standards
  • Ensure vault installations meet structural and alignment requirements
  • Coordinate inspections with engineers and utility representatives
  • Communicate with BC Hydro inspectors and representatives regarding progress and inspections
  • Address client concerns and provide updates on schedule and milestones
  • Maintain daily logs and progress reports
  • Manage purchase orders, invoices, and delivery slips
  • Track permits, utility locates, and approvals
  • Organize project documentation for audits and reviews

Qualifications:

 

·         College Diploma in Civil Engineering, or related discipline is required. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

·         Minimum 2 years’ work experience in a Civil Construction Technologist / Technican role with a working knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and applicable Federal and Provincial building codes.

·         Exceptional verbal and written English.

·         Driver’s License is required.
